During our fitness journey, we are always going to run into a few roadblocks along the way! At times, it may seem like you’re not making progress or taking steps backwards.
We may feel like we are eating correctly and exercising frequently, however there are other factors that may be hindering your progress!
In today’s article, we are going to go over some lifestyle factors that we can change to make fat loss MUCH EASIER!
- Reduce Stress
One of the most overlooked factors for fat loss is stress! Stress can make it harder to consistently diet and cause our workouts to suffer. Stress releases cortisol which can increase the amount of ghrelin in the body. Ghrelin is the body’s hunger signal that can cause us to overeat!
If you feel stressed out, try to take about 5-10 minutes to meditate or let your mind relax! Exercise is shown to actually help reduce stress, so if you’re feeling stressed come into HIT Fit and get your workout in!

- Sleep More!
Most average Americans don’t get enough sleep every night. Lack of sleep can have a lot of the same effects of increased stress.
Less sleep can increase your hunger and cravings throughout the day. In addition, many people who don’t get proper rest find themselves eating late at night to occupy their minds.
The more you are sleeping, the less likely you are eating! We recommend 7-8 hours a night of sleep in order to prevent cravings and have more energy throughout the day!
- Eat More Protein!
We cannot stress enough how important protein is to your diet! Protein helps with satiety and promotes recovery from your workouts!
Protein also has a higher thermic effect than carbs or fats, which means you’ll burn more calories eating protein than any other macronutrient!

- Increase your NEAT!
You’re probably wondering “What is NEAT?” NEAT stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. This is a fancy way of describing the activity you do outside of the gym such as doing laundry, cooking, mowing the lawn, and dancing on the weekends!
You don’t need to make drastic changes right off the back! Try going for a 20 minute walk everyday and increase your activity from there! The calories you burn throughout the day along with your daily dedicated exercise is going to aid tremendously with weekly fat loss!
Just by improving ONE of these lifestyle factors can be the difference between losing fat and not! Try to make small adjustments to your daily routine and diet each and every week/month!
Remember, fitness is a lifelong journey and the more gradual and slower you make changes, the more sustainable they will be so you can keep the FAT OFF FOR LIFE!
